GAS SAFETY

We are in the holiday period par excellence. Many of you are already enjoying your well-deserved rest, others are about to start and others may already be back to normal.

From Caravanas Cruz, we would like to remind you of a very important aspect that you should make sure is in perfect condition when you are tuning up your caravan, camper or motorhome. And we are referring to the gas system.

All caravans and motorhomes have different gas installations, whether gas cooker, trivalent refrigerator or other. And these installations deserve special attention, as a gas problem in such a small space can have serious consequences.

The rule is simple, you should carry out periodic checks every four years, just as you do at home if you are a butane or town gas user.

The difference is that no company will warn you that you have to have your vehicle serviced, nor will anyone force you to have it done. This is why many users of these vehicles either don't do it or forget to do it, without realising the danger it entails.

Our advice:

• Carry out regular maintenance of the system; this will help you to detect possible problems.
• It is also a good idea to check the combustion of all gas appliances. Poor combustion can be fatal to occupants, due to the release of carbon monoxide.
• Fitting some sort of smoke and gas detection device is also a good idea. As well as providing good ventilation by leaving vents open.

• And most importantly, have your vehicle's gas installation checked every 4 years by an authorised technician.
